Buyer Beware! Cheap junk... January 7, 2009 This review is for the following item:
Sabrent SND-P8CH 8-Channel 7.1 High-Performance Surround Sound 3D PCI Sound Card Controller
I chose to upgrade my computer during the holidays and decided I needed a new sound card. Went online and being that I could only buy a PCI type card, the selection to choose from was fairly limited. I finally opted for this Sabrent card figuring that they're probably all the same anyway and it was cheap to boot (I'm no audiophile as you can probably tell).
BAD move!
First, the manufacturer's box that the card came in was the cheapest thinnest cardboard I have ever seen, something you might expect to see in a third world country but not here. Of course it was manufactured in a TWC.
Second, the card was the only thing inside the box; no accompanying manual or instruction booklet of any kind whatsoever. That is just plain lame.
Thirdly, I at least expected the card to work! But it only produced static sounds on top of muffled low level music. I know, so I just happened to get a bad card... it can happen to anyone. The point is everything about this product screams "cheap junk".
I ended up having to go down to Best Buy and plunk down twice as much money for a brand name card (Creative Labs' Sound Blaster) that had all the bells and whistles, plus superb sound quality.
I guess you get what you pay for (if you pay enough).
