4 out of 5 stars GREAT BASS but could go louder.....   December 27, 2008
I recently recieved this product for an xmas gift. i researched it alot before i put it on my xmas list.....
after opening and properly setting the system up i immeadately noticed the floor vibrating bass i got from the subs. i mean really, the 2-in-1 subwoofer really knock....but i noticed that the sound wasnt on the same level as the bass was.....
with 5 speakers, id expect it to go louder.....but personally, i rather have bass than loudness. especially since i already have another speaker system that can go really loud so i normally hook both up to my ipod and try not to break the windows in my house.
all in all the speakers are great. great clarity, amazing bass but if your looking for an extremly loud speaker system, these arent for you.

3 out of 5 stars Good System (I think) but horrible "User Instructions."   December 21, 2008
I just recieived this system and have spent hours trying to set it up with my Sounblaster X-Fi Sound Card. The color codes did not match the card and I had to experiment to find the correct ports. The instruction which came with this system are awful, and the print is so small it can hardly be read. It has TWO remotes, one wired and one wireless. Why anybody would market a system with two remotes is beyond me. I think this system is better than the sound I am gettng from it right now, and I will keep experimenting until I get it tweaked just right. The system comes with no software, butI am going to try the Altec Lansing Site to see if I can find better and more complete information than came in the package. I added this speaker system to a State-Of-The-Art computer running Vista Ultimate 64. It should be out of the box and installed to it's fullest capacity in less than an hour, but, after two days, I am still working on the installation to try to get everything right.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound   September 6, 2008

I just purchased these speakers. I'm a musician and found this system to be very good. The sounds are lifelike, and the songs almost sound as if they're being played live. There is a slight hissing sound, but other sounds in the room (a/c, computer, etc.) make it hardly noticeable. You can just turn the speakers off when not using them. My soundcard does not support 5.1, but these work under the 2/4 setting for mp3s. I have yet to try them with a true surround sound file, which should work as 5.1. Great with acoustic, techno, alternative, pop... all different genres have sounded fantastic. Bass is true. This company makes quality products without a huge price tag, and the sale price is even better. I highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Great Quality   August 30, 2008
If you have a laptop these are the speakers to get. They are easy to hook up, and the quality is really good. Aztec Lansing is the same company that produces the speakers for all HP laptops, and they do a excellent job here as well. I recommend these speakers compared to the logitech speakers especially for any laptop user.

1 out of 5 stars Altec Lansing FX5051 Powered Audio System   February 13, 2008

Now, I love Altec Lansing. However, and I'm not sure how your computer is handling these, these never played in 5.1 for me. And yes... I went through all the settings and connections and called tech support. It just fought with my computer from day one. The instructions wouldn't be good for a beginning computer user... or even one that had never really messed with the sound controls before. After a two days of using these they started overloading my usb port when plugged in. I think the idea of these is perfect for a laptop... no very well executed. I ended up returning these.
