Editorial Reviews:

Description
An epic in the spirit of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, this widely acclaimed motion picture is a meticulous recreation of the turbulent era of Jesus and the events that changed the course of history! Narrated by Golden Globe nominee Christopher Plummer (Best Supporting Actor, AMERICAN TRAGEDY, 2000), it's the bold and powerful story of Jesus as told by his disciple John. The best-loved but least understood of the gospels, John presents a uniquely human portrait of courage and passion encompassing Jesus' entire three-year ministry, the final years of his life. Intimate and reflective, THE GOSPEL OF JOHN offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the incomparable life and times of Jesus Christ.

4 out of 5 stars Sencilla y fiel al evangelio   August 14, 2008

1 out of 5 stars AWFUL!   August 8, 2008

This dvd was so bad I gave it away because I never want to see it again. It was too Hollywood. They tried to make Jesus "sexy" and it was in very poor taste. The first dvd in this series "Matthew" was wonderful. It was a "B" quality film however it was sincere and I've watched it many times. "Acts" was half good and half bad. They chose a big name actor to play Peter, I think it was Strisands husband. It was obvious he was acting a part and had no spiritual ties to it. The man who played Peter in Matthew was a nobody and he was great. He was perfect for the part. The Gospel of John is one of my favorit books in the Bible because it shows the love of Jesus and they ruined it. Don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars excellent   July 25, 2008
This film was very beneficial to our bible study group. An excellent way to do a bible study for all and especially for those who don't have good reading comprehension. It's word for word from the bible so it's a very accurate account. We fully enjoyed it and look forward to seeing the others in the series.

2 out of 5 stars Subpar interpretation of John   July 24, 2008

The premise was good I thought - act out the New Testament as told by the Gospel of John. I thought the execution was terrible though. First of all, if you have ever watched the TV show Lost, you have to mentally adjust to have "Desmond" being Jesus. This is a big mental leap. Second, this is practically word for word from the bible. This makes it very predictable and kind of jumpy. I understand that you don't want to put more words in Jesus's mouth, but boy is it dull if you have read John before. Third, the movie portrays Jesus as a very angry man. He practically yells everything from John. I understand he was upset or frustrated at some points, but all the time? C'mon! I didn't enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars Would give an even higher rating if I could!   July 19, 2008
My husband and I just love this movie! We have three different movie portrayals of Jesus Christ, which are completely consistent with their respective Gospels, and we enjoy all of them. (Read my other reviews if you're interested in them.)

I get a huge kick out of the fact that the guy playing Jesus in this movie is a cast member of the TV series Lost. It threw me at first, but his portrayal of Jesus really draws you in, and I quickly forgot about his TV role.

If you're looking for a great movie to share with friends, family, small group, etc., this is it! Don't watch late at night because the short version is long and the long version is longer! You'll want to stay awake!
