Essential reading after the death of a loved one January 7, 2009 I was given this book after my husband died in 2003. I've since given it to friends and family on a number of occasions. All seem to agree the author's spot-on insights helped to get us through those very dark hours, especially in the first year. I couldn't recommend it more highly.
amazing empithy December 29, 2008 Martha is amazing in her ability to consistently communicate, with strength and clarity, to those who are grieving. Moreover, she does it without using worn phrases or religious platitudes. She is always refreshing in her choice of poetry or prose to frame her daily sharing of thought or experience. One believes that Martha has been their and felt that. She comes across as a caring friend and not as an indifferent councilor. The book has helped me greatly in my grieving process. I recommend it highly.

Healing after loss December 21, 2008 These thoughtful and varied meditations about dealing with the mental jumble one experiences after the loss of a loved one have been very helpful to me.
quiet comfort and rays of light December 11, 2008 When I lost my husband at age 38, I was devastated and numb. I found this book in a shop one day. I read it every morning for about a year and I still open it. I have given it to loved ones who have lost. It is a great reminder of the inevitability of death and the eternality of all. It is not judeo-christian religious, as someone mentioned in another review. It has quotes from hindi/buddhist/judaism/christianity and non-religious philosophy. Along with practical things to think about like remembering about laughter and living.
Healing After Loss: Daily Meditations for Working Through Grief December 10, 2008 This is my first review I've left because I feel a need to sing the praises of this book & how it has helped me. It's been three years since my only child, my son died at age 26 from a drug related death. I've tried to read other books on grief and dealing with death of loved ones but found it hard to deal with their content. These meditations give me what I need in small daily doses and provides the healing I need.
